Hidden folder?

I wanted to move a buch of files from 1 pst to another, so i tried import.
I told it to import the folder to the same folder in a different pst. this
seemed to work like normal and the pst file size increased significantly,
but, i can"t see the new folder?? The folder did not exist previously so I
assumed it would create it.

So I have 2 questions.
1) why was I able to import into a folder that didn't exist yet the folder
didn't show up
2) More importantly, ist there a way to get this folder to display since
apparently all of the data is in there somewhere?


This is on an XP pro box with Outlook 2003.

Depends on what you tried to import. Anyway, why import in the first place?
Outlook can directly read the pst-file by File-> Open-> Outlook Data File...

i did import, so i would like to know how the data can be in there taking up
space but can't be seen??

If it takes up space in the folder it is there. Where? Again; depends on
what you imported and where you are looking now.

Note, the size of the pst-file is no indication on whether or not the import
succeeded. You must look at the mailbox size itself.

I am not sure that how you imported the messages from one PST to another. Normally, if you use the File menu > Import and Export > it will ask
you which folder to be imported to and you need to define it. How did you import into a folder that didn't exist?

In Outlook, click the Go menu > Folder List to show the outlook folder list. Expand all the folders to see if you can find your content.

According to current situation, I strongly recommend you to just use the 'drag/drop' to move messages from one pst to another.

1. In Outlook 2003, if you want to move the items from one PST to a new PST, click File > New > Outlook data file > to create a new PST.
2. If you want to move to an existing PST which is not listed in the Outlook folder list, click File > Open > Outlook data file > to open it in
the Outlook folder list.

3. If needed, right click the second PST folder and choose New folder to create subfolder to store the items which you want to move them
on.

4. And then just highlight the items in the first PST folder > copy or move them to the second PST folder.
