Hidden Text and Show/Hide Formatting

I have a 100 page Word 97 document made up mostly of
tables. When I get to a certain point in the document and
type into my table, Word converts a chunk of the text to
be hidden text and automatically displays all the
formatting marks.

Has anyone got any ideas about why this is being caused.
(This has now happened in two documents based on different
templates.)

Hi Simon,

This sounds like a macro rather than a problem in the Word
application.

Does this occur if you start Word using the /a switch? Go to Start/Run
and run:

winword /a

Note the space before the forward slash.

If it does not occur then check out your macros under
Tools/Macro/Macros.
