Hidden Text

I am working with a large (287 pages, 7Mb) MS Word 2003 file. The file has
had inputs from several contributors; some using different versions of MS
Word. I have set Hidden Text on the Options General Tab "Not To Be Viewed"
and saved the file. However, when I later open the file Hidden Text for
Headings is displayed. When I go back to the Options General Tab it is setup
for viewing Hidden Text. Then I go through the same process to disable
viewing Hidden Text. If there is anyone else experiencing this problem and
knows how to eliminate it ~ please advise. Thank you.

Hi DcM,

The "View" settings are settings for your machine (Word), not for the document.
They aren't saved in the document.

The only way you could set the view *in* the document would be a macro, and that would likely be more trouble than it's worth, escpecially since many people won't open documents with macros, or at least will disable the macros (virus danger).

Regards,
Klaus

To be more precise: The view settings are taken from the attached template (not necessarily Normal.dot).

Some View settings (Print Layout vs. Normal, Zoom ratio, etc.) are saved
with the document or template, but display (or nondisplay) of nonprinting
characters and field codes is determined by the setting in the window from
which the document is opened.
