Hide and protect columns

I need to be able to hide AND protect some columns. These have salaries so are sensitive.
Howver the budget needs to be shared.

Is there any way to hide AND Protect or do I have to move the 'sensitive' data to a separate sheet so I can hide and protect ?

Thanks for any help, please email to dtennent(at)westpac(dot)com(dot)au
