Hide Cell Contents

Is there a way to hide the contents of a cell without
changing the color of the font to the background color?

You can use a custom format:

Select the cells
Choose Format>Cells
Select the Number tab
Select the Custom category
In the text box, type three semi-colons: ;;;
Click OK
