Hide Email Notification Icon for IMAP account

I would like the email notification to be present when a new email arrives in
my default (Microsoft Exchange) inbox but not when a new email arrives in my
IMAP account. Is there a way to turn off the notifications only for the IMAP
account?

(I am running Windows XP and Outlook 2003)

Don't include the IMAP account in the Send/Receive group. What notification
do you mean, the Desktop Alert or the New Mail icon in the system tray?

Desktop Alert doesn't work on IMAP, does it? (Well it doesn't here....)

You'll need to make a rule for the desktop alert for the IMAP account. I
don't believe there is any way to suppress the new message icon on a
per-account basis.
