I think you are dealing with apples and oranges here.
Gridlines do not print. Borders do print. If you have a
table with borders applied all the way around every cell,
row, column, and table then toggle Show/Hide gridlines
will have no apparent effect because the gridlines are
under the borders.
To clear all borders, put your cursor in the table and
press CTRL+ALT+U. Now press the show/hide gridline icon
to see the effect.
