hiding data in cells

More help required please

I have used a formula to show total days lapsed since an origional input
date. I then copy it down
say 10 rows. However, the date may not be entered straight away and the
results of the formlua show a very strange reading. How can I
hide the results of this formula until my dates are entered. Hope this makes
sense

right now the sheet look s like this

A1 A2
22/9/04 5
25/9/04 2
33533
33533
33533

So I would like the 33533 figures to appear blank until the date in A1 is
input
