Highlighter, Erasing

I'm a OneNote 2007 newbie. I mostly only make clippings from webpages, and
occasionally add typed notes. I'd like to use the highlighter at times.
When I click on it and then click/drag over the area I want to highlight,
nothing happens. I see the outline of a box while I'm dragging, but as soon
as I release the mouse button, it disappears and it never applies color. How
is the tool supposed to work? It doesn't seem very intuitive!

Also, when clipping a rectangle from a web page, I often capture bits of
"other things" that I don't want to retain in the image. After making the
clip, is there a way to erase the extra bits from it? An eraser tool seems
logical, but I can't find one.

First select the text you want to highlight, then click on the highlighter.
The selected text will then be highlighted.
For your other question, select the text or photos you want to delete with
the text select tool, then hit delete or backspace.

Although I, too, am new to OneNote, let me take a stab at your
questions. (I'm using OneNote 2010 Beta, but I don't think it matters
for your questions.)

The highlight feature works like Word, if you are familiar with it.
Did you select the color you want, using the drop-down arrown at the
right-hand side. Perhaps, you have "no color" selected. If it is not
as simple as this, you'll likely need to "repair" the software via the
'Add or Remove Programs' in the Control Panel (at least if you are
using WinXP).

For your clipping issue: clippings come in, I believe, as
'pictures' and cannot be erased in part. You might try an alternate
method of bringing in content from other sources: 'copy and paste'.
This will bring in text as text, not a picture. You can then edit the
same way as you would in a wordprocessor. (Note: if you 'copy and
paste' a picture, it still comes in a a picture, of course, and cannot
be edited this way.)

Hopefully, someone more knowledgeable than I will correct/supplement
the above.

Thanks, Michael - your answer gave me direction. It looks like, for whatever
reason, the highlighter button on the Formatting toolbar does not work for me
at all. However, if I open the My Pens or Writing toolbars, the highlighter
tool in those locations does work as expected. As for my erasing question -
I discovered that I can move the clipping - which is actually an image - over
into my Paint program. From there, I can use the Select tool to highlight
unwanted bits and then click Delete to remove them. When I'm done editing, I
can then move the image back to OneNote. Seems silly to me that you can't
just do that simple editing right there in OneNote, but whatever! That's
Microsoft for you! Thanks for your help!
