Highlights randomly disappear Word 2007

I highlight several separate words, page, highlight a different color, and
when page back to earlier highlighted words they are no longer highlighted.

System is XP.

Any suggestions to check?

My error - 2 set of same data in document - search would go to second set -
not highlighted.
