Not a problem .. I know you are helping a lot of people at
the same time.
I am sorry that my problem is so pesky and does not seem
to go away. I would be happy to send you screen shots but
if going to the page would help you here is the URL
http://streetwhispers.com
Also there are a few other things you may want to know if
they are impacting all this
1. I cannot publish using
http://streetwhispers.com I get
the message that says the frontpage server extensions are
not installed ... which is incorrect for I know they are
installed.
2. The server is behind a firewall and port 80 is open,
and you would see that you can access the website.
3. I am pulling my hair out as you can see the hit counter
is still not working.
Once again thank you for your help.
-----Original Message-----
Sorry, I had default.htm in my brain from another posters question.
The home or default page in a web on your machine is
always named index.htm but when you publish,
FrontPage checks the server settings and then
automatically renames the home page to what the server
requires.
It can be index.htm index.html default.htm Default.htm Default.html and many more.
So:
Open the live site with FrontPage, by clicking File > Open web, and then entering
www.yourwebsite.com You will be prompted for your server
user name and password, then the web will
open just like it does on your local machine.
When it opens, look at the home page and see what it's named ( and remember it )
Close the "published web" and then open your local web
and rename the local index.htm to match the
one on the server and click yes when prompted to rename links to / from other pages.
Then open the page for editing, remove the hit counter,
save, reinsert the hit counter, save.
Publish.

I am at a loss now.
How does one set the counter after oepening.Do you mean I
should open the default.htm.snt page? and if so how do I
reset it.
Secondly I paste the html code about the counter from the
default page. My default page is names as index.htm.
<!--webbot bot="HitCounter" u-custom i-image="3" i-
resetvalue="1" PREVIEW="<strong>[Hit Counter]
</strong>" i-digits="7" startspan --><img
src="_vti_bin/fpcount.exe/D:/?
Page=index.htm|Image=3|Digits=7" alt="Hit Counter"><!--
webbot bot="HitCounter" i-checksum="47990" endspan --
Thirdly there is red "X Hit Couter" that appears on
webpage.
Thank you
-----Original Message-----
The red x means the file is marked as do not publish,
which is normal so that updates to the local
web don't cause the file to publish and change / reset
the count.
So, open the live site on the server. Open the page and
reset the count and then save the page.

Steve you are correct the file does contain
FPCountFile 00000000001
However there is a red X where the counter is and the
counter does not move, no matter how many times I
refresh.
Your help is appreciated
Thanks again
-----Original Message-----
That's not the default.htm.cnt file that's a file in a
_vti folder.
The default.htm.cnt file will be in the _private folder
and all it will contain is:
FPCountFile 00000000001

I did what you said and can also see the file that
Tom
in
the earlier disussion mentioned in the -private
folder.
Previously the counter did not move but now there is
just
a red cross appearing instead of the counter.

Open FrontPage. Open your web. Open the page
containing
the hit counter.
Remove the hit counter, save the page, reinstall the
hit
counter, save the page.
Publish.

I have done a search with *.htm.cnt and no such
file
exists on the whole harddrive.. I have also tried
the
direction from technet article 181662 and still it
does
not work.
I have published the site. I am runnning IIS 5.
More
help
is needed.
Thanks

This behavior occurs if the
IUSR_ said:
account
does not have
sufficient permissions to read and write to the
<Pagename>.htm.cnt file,
where <computername> is the name of the Windows
NT
server
and <Pagename> is
the name of the page that contains the Hit
Counter.
NOTE: The <Pagename>.htm.cnt file stores a log of
how
many times the page
was accessed, thus incrementing the Hit Counter.
This problem can also occur if the content has
been
copied or FTPd rather
than published to the Web. You can recalculate
hyperlinks
to fix this
situation.
Contact your host to change the permissions on
the
<Pagename>.htm.cnt file
to read and write and delete for the
IUSR_<computername>
account on the
Windows IIS server
