Hit Counter Not Incrementing

N

Nic

I'v published my web site on to a server with FP
Extensions, and noticed the Hit Counter doesn't work.
(Located on the Home Page)
I found an article in MS Knowledgebase about this, and it
suggested I "log in" to my web server and Recalculate
Hyperlinks. I did this but still the counter will not
work, it won't even accept a "reset number" change, it
just displays 00001 all the time.
I have noticed however, when I log in to my site live,
within Frontpage (2000), the navigation bars are not
showing on the index.htm (home page), but they display ok
when using the browser to navigate to my published site.
I have re-published the entire site, but the counter
still won't work.
This isn't a great loss, but I would like to know why
it's not working.

Am I right in thinking I can't read\see the site's log
files within Frontpage, because they do not show up.

Sorry for the long post.

Any Ideas??

Thanks

The scripting looks correct however try this:
Open the site in FrontPage.
Remove the hit counter and save the page.
Reinstall the hit counter and save the page.

Thanks for your response Steve,I tried your suggestion,
but the counter still won't work. I tried placing it on a
different page, but still no joy.
I've noticed it takes about 10secs to display, which
seems odd in itself.

The only other thing I can think
of is to have your host make sure the
permissions are set correctly on the _vti_bin
and _private folders.
_vti_bin needs read permission
and _private needs server read write permission.

Hi John

I have tried the suggestion from the link you provided,
but unfortunately this doesn't do the trick.
I have sent a message to my ISP, to see if they can shed
any light on this.

thanks anyway
