hit counter problem

sharonc

I cannot add a hit counter to my page. When I add a counter, I no longer can
view the page. I cannot see it either in the preview pane or if I upload the
page. I know that there must be some security setting somewhere that is
blocking the view but I can't find it. This happens even if I use FP to add
the counter.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Does your web host have the FrontPage Server Extensions installed? Have
your web host make sure that there are no permissions errors on your site
and that the _private folder has read / write permissions.

You may also want to take a look at Hit Me FP (it's free)

The extensions are enabled. There are no permission errors on my site.

When I try to install any counter that includes javascript, I cannot even
see the page when I switch to preview view.

You won't. FP Preview won't let you see many things. You need to Preview
in Browser or look at it from the live site.

What's the URL so we can take a look?

Why use a javascript counter??
Why not use the built in one??
If you don't like the available images, make your own custom image
using this: http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/HitMeFP.htm

Steve,

I am not the OP, but I thought I would just comment - I have added my own
Hit Counter (below) because the FP one uses webbots which will become
obsolete sometime won't they ?

With the Hit Counter that I installed (using some code and images I found on
the web), I have a slight problem that it increases by 3 when the page is
revisited. But apart from that it works fine. Someday, I will find out why
it misbehaves. I tried adding the code to retrieve and increment the counter
into global.asa and it worked while I was logged on. Next time I entered, it
didn't even display the counter images. But this may be an ASP problem, not
FP.

BTW,
I tried your images (with the FP Hit counter) and I like them.

An asp solution on your own server is ok.
I'm just not a fan of third party hit counters / web stats programs that live on a different server.

Glad you like the images HitMeFP makes though.
