Hit counter refuses to reset from 0123456789

All versions stay on 0123456789. Will not reset
.
When Published to a server with the FrontPage Server
Extensions installed, it may somewhat closely reflect the
actual number, but many times is flaky.

To reset to anything that your little heart desires (the
reason for my first statement regarding the "flaky" numbers
seen on sites), right click on the counter and choose
FrontPage Component Properties. Near the bottom of the
dialog box that opens, there is are reset provisions.

I insert the hit counter and set to zero with 5 figures. Nothing happens, it
doesn't even get published. I suspect a defect in the program.

Once inserted and published, you need to then open the live site in FrontPage and change the hit
count there. The files that maintain the count are automatically marked as "do not publish" so they
aren't "over written" after you edit and the preview pages on your local machine.

The hit counter only appears as a rectangle plus the usual cross. Also
please, how do I open the site live in FP?

Launch FrontPage. Click File > Open web.. ( Open site in FP 2003 ) enter the web address
http://yourwebsitename.com and click OK.
When prompted enter the user name and password.

However, if the server does *not* have FrontPage extensions installed, the above will not work.

Also, if you have to publish using ftp:// that means the server doesn't have extensions and the
hit counter will not work. Ever..
Can you post a link so someone can take a "peek."
