Hit Counter will not count

F

I have spent the better part of two days trying to get the counter to
function. FP2000,all updates.
Server is ixwebhosting. Web server is FP enabled. Uploading with CuteFTP.
Site using themes.
..
When I use the themes the counter does not register. When no themes it works.
My ISP has a FP rebuild option. Used that and it removed the theme , or the
banners, navbar etc.,and the counter worked. Re-uploaded with theme and not
working. Shows the #1 but will not advance.

Hi FriendlyViper,

The FrontPage hit counter requires that the FrontPage Extensions be
installed on the host server in order to work. If FrontPage extensions are
installed you must use the FrontPage publishing feature rather than ftp in
order to transfer files. If you use ftp chances are you are corrupting the
FrontPage extensions each time you do. Try and make sure the FrontPage
extensions are installed..and then Publish with FrontPage to the server (not
ftp) and hopefully it will work.

It will not work if you upload via FTP. If the site has the FP Extensions installed, you have most
likely corrupted them by using FTP, you will need to re-install them from web host control panel or
you web host will have to re-install them, then do not use FTP if you want any of the FP run-time
webbots to work.

I understand..Now, I have very large image file, already on server,
publishing w/FP wants to re up these. Is there a resaon to do this? is there
a way to just upload the HTML docs. Or do I have to upload entire site thru
FP.

If the FP server extensions have been reinstalled, a new full publish should
be done to get everything back in synch.

I was afraid of that...have 1.97G of images to upload/overwrite and a less
than 750kps upload service. Oh well there goes another 2 days.......

Thanks for your time regarding ithis.

If all the images are in a single folder, then convert the folder to a subweb / subsite, then you
only have to publish the root web / site.

Converted, using info found on the forum. Am unable to get the theme working
when converting the image folder to subweb. Labels not correct and no nav
bar just text.

Sorry, move your large images, not those associated with your theme, navigation to a new folder,
then right click the folder and select convert to subweb/subsite, do this locally, then do a publish
with change page only option selected. However first check with your web host to make sure that you
can create subwebs/subsites.
