Hit enter a capital appears, why?

How can I stop Word 2003 from starting every new line with a capital letter?

Lenny,

Stop hitting enter. You are using a word processor not a typewriter. Word
will automatically wrap your sentences to the next line as you type. If you
hit the enter key, you are instructing Word to start a new paragraph. Since
paragraphs start with sententences and sentences start with capitalized words
..... you get the point.

You can override this feature with Tools>AutoCorrect Options>AutoCorrect and
uncheck Captilatize first letter of sentences.

If you are trying to control the length of lines using the
Enter key, Word figures that the next word that you type is
the beginning of a sentence. This enables one to type
withour having to decide when you have reached the end of
the line as in typing on a manual typewriter on paper.

You have two alternatives, continue typing and let word
decide when to roll to the next line, or you can hold down
the Shift key and press Enter.

Is that it! Is that the best that microsoft can do? What happens if you are
writing something that you only want to be 10 words long before the next
line but the same sentence? I find it hard to believe that I have to hold
the shift key down everytime, that is crazy.

Thanks Greg, that is just what I was looking for.
I get the point but there are times when you might want the sentence to move
onto another line.

If you wish to put a line break within a paragraph then shift+enter is the
way to do it.
As Greg said earlier, this is not a typewriter, stop treating it as one.
If you wish to make shorter line lengths as a matter of course alter the
margins or indents of the current paragraph style.

Then use Shift + Enter to create a manual line break instead. If the
reason you want to create a new line is due to not wanting a words to
break at the end then use Ctrl + Shift + Space to insert a nonbreaking
space. That way if you change your margins the text will reflow
correctly.
