Hitting Enter at the end of a bulleted line

Hi. So, I'm very new to Macintosh in general, and also the mac version of applications. However, this seems pretty irregular to me. At the end of a line that is bulleted, assuming there is no other bulleted line below it, when I hit enter, it simply tabs my cursor a few spaces, and changes the indent in the horizontal ruler. After hitting enter about five more times, each time not moving the cursor, but moving the horizontal indent markers in the ruler, it will finally drop my cursor down to the next line, without producing a bullet, and returning the indent markers to the zero position on the ruler. At one point I had it working correctly, but have no idea how I did this. I did something involving setting the tabs.

Any help at all would be great because I'm 100% lost on this. Thanks.

Is this happening in all documents or just a certain one? Is it a particular
bulleted list or does it happen with all bulleted lists? What other
specifics can you provide? What is the "something" you did "involving
setting the tabs"?

Have you tried creating a bulleted list in a new document? What about from a
new user account?

It would also be helpful to know your exact versions or Office & OS X.

Sorry, I tried a new document with a new bulleted list and it didn't happen. It must have been something that I set by mistake.

It really sounds to me as though your keyboard is producing tab characters
when it should be producing "Return" characters.

Turn on your Show/Hide so that you can see what you are doing. Now: When
you hit Enter, what character appears? (Describe it, and we can tell you
what's wrong...)

Cheers
