"Hobo" Font?

B

bam

Someone has asked me to do a page using a font called Hobo - my guess is
it's an Adobe/Mac thing. Is it safe to assume that many viewers of this page
will not see it as Hobo, since they won't have the font installed on their
system?

Thanks

Well, no, Hobo is not an Adobe/Mac thing. It is a typeface that has been
around for a long time (Kingsley-ATF Type Corporation). The biggest
distributor in electronic form is probably Bitstream. However, hundreds of
knockoff versions are out there and probably one or the other is on just
about every computer. I fyou are doing a style sheet, you could string the
most popular names and hope for the best. You could cover many, but not all
viewers. (Hobo, HomewardBound, yadayada, etc.) Check out one of the web font
utilies available form MS, or other vendors that can download a temporaty
subset of the font used on the page.

Thanks, but I'd rather play it safe and try to convince my client to use a
font that's fairly universal. It would also probably cause spacing problems,
and I don't want to risk tables and sentences jumping around all over the
place.
