home page won't update

Mike Cummins

BlankI'm using version 2000. I've had the site since 1999 with the same host. Now, when I make changes and publish, the home page is not updated. All other pages work. I have only one home page, index.htm. The host says this is the correct extension.

I use shared borders. What bothers me most is that the links in the shared border on the home page are missing.

You can see the site at www.mcumminscpa.com. The home page should have links to the other pages. If you click on a link in the body of the home page you can see the what the shared borders are supposed to look like.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
mc

Actually Mike you have not one but THREE homepages....

You have if you put in http://www.mcumminscpa.com/ to the browser address
bar ....

note: The homepage with the shared border is default.htm

You can tell this by putting in http://www.mcumminscpa.com/ first this
produces the top shared border then if you type default.htm at the end of
that and press enter you will get the same page, if you then delete
default.htm fromm the address bar and type
http://www.mcumminscpa.com/index.htm or
http://www.mcumminscpa.com/index.html

that is index.htm or index.html

You get two other homepages with no top border.

You need to establish which is the actual homepage of your site in your web
this will be one of the following.

default.htm
index.htm
index.html

find the one that has the house next to it .. that's the homepage of your
web....

open that up and check if it has the contents of what you want (probably the
default.htm)
Delete index.htm and index.html or rename to something else if you want to
keep them (right click on the file name and choose rename ... edit the name
and press ok Fronpage will automatically update links for you)

Next if the host says index.htm should be the one your using you need to
rename the default.htm (which is the one i suspect is your actual homepage
in your web) (the one with a little house on it) to index.htm

I would then open the web live on the server and delete the two index.htm
and index.html and rename the default.htm to index.htm ... recalculate
hyperlinks under tools ... close the web and open the web on the hard drive
and recalculate hyperlinks under tools there before publishing ...

and all will be hunky dory again.

let me know if this helps

Tip now out is: THUMBS.DB AND FRONTPAGE
http://frontpage-tips.com/ - FrontPage Tips
They are primarily for FrontPage 2003 but will be good
for earlier versions too.
