Does anyone know if I can open a Microsoft Home
Publishing Suite 2000 file in Microsoft Publisher?

Nope - can't be done. Two different but similarly named programs.

The only way you can do it is to copy the content over with the clipboard.
Yes, that does mean you need to have both programs installed.
You would think a company could make their programs more compatible and
friendly to users.

The only programs that will open MS Home Publishing
..php files are MS Home Publishing, MS Picture It! and
MS Digital Image Pro.

My biggest issue is that MS tends to name their products similarly. Home
Publishing and Publisher. Windows 2000 and Millenium Editon. (Don't get me
started on when the new millenium began.) Windows XP and Office XP.

Would it kill them to give the products separate identities so that novices
can get their facts straight? The poor newbies think they need one thing and
it turns out to be something different because they got the names confused.

Oh Ed! Do you REALLY want to start that? My peeve about MS naming their
products so much alike is nothing. You should hear me get started on
imported Christmas decorations, raising minimum wage, man's inhumnity to
man, children who dress like slutty hookers, and so forth and so
on...........
