Horizontal Alignment in Footers

Sometimes when I have information in both the left and the
right panes of the footer, the left pane prints right at
the "top" of the footer, while the right pane prints
anywhere from the middle to the bottom of the footer. How
can I get them both lined up on the same line?

I don't have a clue as to how you are getting the information into the
footer. Text there is like text anywhere in a document. The footer style has
a center tab and a right tab preset. If you type something and press the tab
key twice then type something else, what you typed first will be on the
left, what you typed after the tabs will be on the right.

If you are using "Different odd and even" so that you have different footers
on odd and even (right and left) pages, then I suspect what may have
happened is that you used Copy/Paste to copy the text of one footer and
paste it into the other. When you do this, no matter how carefully you
select all but the paragraph mark in copying and the paragraph mark in
pasting, you'll still end up with an extra, empty paragraph. Display
nonprinting characters (Ctrl+*), and you will see the paragraph mark. Select
it and press Delete or Backspace.
