Horizontal line ease of use

S

scottech

Currently for me to use a Horizontal line [Format >> Borders and Shading >>
Horizontal Line Button], I have to click on the button and then wait for the
lines to display, and then pick one.

If there is one that I like using, is there any way to put it in a menu to
make it quicker to use, or to put it in with the choices for the borders?

If there's any type of solution or help that someone could provide I would
be most appreciative.

Thank you.

Jezebel --

I appreciate the post, and was wondering if you could elaborate a little more.

I tried putting the horizontal line on the page, and then going to [Format
Styles and Formatting] and then creating a new style, but I don't see
where I can incorporate the new Horizontal Line.

I'm not sure if that's what you meant by defining a style that has that
border in it or not. I just can't seem to make a Horizontal any easier to
get to then searching for it each time.

If you can help, that'd be great.

If you need to post something and me not read it through the CDO reader
here, let me know and I'll read it the other way.

Thanks very much.

Create a new style. Call it something like "LineStyle". Define the Borders
and Shading for that style to include the kind of line you'd like. Then when
you want to add a line, add a paragraph and apply your style to it.

Jezebel, have you tried this? The Horizontal Line produced by the Borders
and Shading dialog is not a border but in fact a sort of AutoShape (intended
mostly for Web pages, I think). I don't believe it can be incorporated in
paragraph formatting or a paragraph style.

We must be talking of different things. I have several styles set up in my
normal template that are predefined with horizontal lines, configured using
Borders and Shading within the style definition, eg

Heading 5
Style for Next Paragraph: Normal; Heading 4 + Font color: Blue, Level 5,
Border: Bottom: (Single solid line, Green, 0.5 pt Line
width)

The wording ("Border: Bottom") suggests that this is a bottom border rather
than a horizontal line. Are you adding this to the paragraph using the
Horizontal Line button in the Borders and Shading dialog? Clicking that
button opens a separate Horizontal Line dialog that displays clip art
"dividers." I do not believe that these can be added to a style.

I do appreciate Jezebel's info on creating a style... I didn't know I could
do that and it could help with other things I need.

But yes, it's the Horizontal Line PushButton that I'm hoping to be able to
use more efficiently somehow... I wasn't sure if those could be added to the
Borders & Shading border types or not..... or if one particular line could
be saved off for use in an easier fashion.

A macro may or may not work, but I was hoping for something other than a
Macro... I'm guessing, though, from what I've heard that it's not really
possible. Though, I hope that I can be proven wrong in that guess.

I do appreciate the assistance.

It does more than suggest! It's quite explicit.

Well, you seemed to be confusing a bottom border with a horizontal line,
which is a graphic.
