Hi Carole
First question should be, "How much do you need?" To answer your
second question and we will take the long way:
What the host is saying is, "5 Gigabytes of data transfer". This is how
much they allow for transfer of your web pages to anyone that accesses your
web or web pages. What is counted the transfer of the initiators request
for your page, say your page is 70kb big, then the counters counts 70kb for
that person, then another person right behind the first person requests your
70kb index page, now the counter is at 140kb at the hosts end for transfer,
so on and so forth until you reach "5 Gigabytes of data transfer". This
should not worry you yet if you are just starting out, if you become
popular, may be not even then. My site is now at 30Mb and I seldom reach
much more then half a gig's worth of transfer, probably more like 200Mb 0r
300Mb transfer per month. I have 30Gb of tranfer per month. To ask the
question again how much do you need for your site? Are you looking for a
free host or an inexpensive host? free hosts are usually low in page
capacity because they are just that free, inexpensive hosts are now pushing
up to 1Gb of space, but the average is usually adequate at 750Mb. Most
hosts want to be paid yearly, but this does not mean you are necessarily
locked in the year, the host I use will prorate to the day, the unused
proportion of the fee. If you want my site is @

it is a commercial web design site. No site should be static, there should
always be some changes going on, for good stuff.

I'm just wondering, what if you sign up with a web host and you need more
space than they have? For example, a couple of people have recommended
Cybersharks.net, but they only allow you to have 50 MGs of space and I know
I would need a lot more than that. And what does it mean when they say they
allow "5 Gigabytes of data transfer"?
