Just wondering whe we are going to be able to have Hotmail as a standard
Outlook email folder, so it can included in search folders such as unread
mail, and have all the same properties of standard Outlook email folders?

Try using Outlook Connector.....

Yes, that allows Hotmail to be included in Outlook folders, but it is less
than useful as it is a separate folder tht cannot be included in your
Personal Folders.
This means, for instance, that:
1. To search for an item, your have to search Personal folders and Hotmail
separately.
2. You have to have two "unread items" folders, one for Personal Folders,
and one for Hotmail
3. You can't have Hotmail messages delivered to another folder as they are
received.

Surely in the 21st century it is not impossible to integrate the Outlook
Connector accounts into the personal folders??

Nope. If you click on "All Mail Items" in the L/H pane (Outlook 2007) you
can search as it says - all mail items....that includes the Hotmail folders.

Nope. That is less than useful because unless you download the stupid and
bug-ridden Instant Search, it returns every instance of the search stringm,
whereas the "normal" search allows you to narrow it to subject, sender, etc

Instant Search works great for me. Certainly better than the old search
which often took many minutes to find simple strings in my large
mailbox.

It sounds like you want something that is already addressed by the
product but you don't want to utilize the method by which it is
addressed.

I haven't downloaded anything.......this is the built-in search function in
Outlook 2007 on Vista...

It is not already addressed. If you use the "All Mail Items" search it
retunes every occurence of the search string no matter where it is. This is
useless if the search string is a common combination of letters, as you get
thousands of results.

In Outlook Express, you can search all folders at once, and can specify to
search, e.g in the Subject, From, To, Message text, etc. This is much more
useful.

This search is accessed by pressing Ctrl+Shift+F

Outlook 2007 does have this search, but it is limited to one set of folders
(such as Personal). And for some reason it never finds anything unless you
change the "Look For" box from "Messages" to"Any type of Outlook Item". I'd
say this is a bug...
