how are email delivery sounds produced in XP?

R

Rich Pan

i have Outlook 2003 configured to produce sound when an new email arrives -
Tools-Options-Preferences-EmailOptions-AdvancedEmailOptions-"Play a sound"
box
is checked, as is DisplayDesktopAlert.
however, the sound is never played when new email arrives.
my XP machine is producing sound for other software and a sample of the
sound i chose for email arrival, is acceptable.
What am I doing wrong? Is there a Windows XP Pro sound configuration switch
I should change?

Are these messages being delivered your main Inbox? If not, they will not
play a sound, by default.

Excuse me, what is a "Main Inbox" vis-a-vis Inbox?
1) I didn't capitalize "Main"...you did. Why?
2) The user's primary Inbox, as opposed to any other "inbox" that the user
may have created/named.

Any other questions?
