How big is my PST?

W

Wes Newman

I had a PST which was 1.4 GB in size. I created a second
PST and moved 800 MB from the original PST into the new
PST. When I look at the properties in detail view using
explorer the original PST still shows it at 1.4 GB. When
I view the size of the PST file via its propertied in
Outlook, it displays 600MB. Why the difference in sizes?

Thx

The difference is the "white spaces". You'll need to truncate the pst-file.
Rightclick the root of the folder (probably Outlook Today)-> Properties->
button Advanced-> button Compact Now...

This could take a while so you might want to do it overnight or get a good
book ;-). Do it 3 times for best results (the second and third time should
be done within minutes or even seconds).
