How can '97 Users run '02 App?

R

Rich

I created an Access 02 application (is this the same as MS
XP?!) with a front-end (UI and code) split from a back-end
(db), both of which reside on a network drive. I have
created an MDE which is what the Users will run. NOTE: We
are not concerned with performance, YET - :).

We learned that we have user's with Access 97 installed
on them. We would like to retain Access 97 on the
workstations for legacy db's for this group of user's and
install Access 02 on the network where the application
resides so that this group of user's can launch the
application.

Is the above approach feasible? If not, what are the
alternatives? If this cannot be answered in this forum -
please direct me to possible sources that could answer
this question.

Thanks in advance for your assistance!
Rich

Yes, it is.

Performance-wise, there really isn't much difference between an MDB and an MDE,
barring one or two scenarios that I have encountered (but not investigated or
heard further on) in the newsgroups. When you do become concerned with
performance, I recommend a visit to Tony Toews' web site
(http://www.granite.ab.ca/accsmstr.htm), particularly his page on Access
performance issues:

You have 2 options, neither of which you want to hear, I'm sure. Upgrade all
users to Access 2002 (XP) or convert both the front-end and back-end MDBs to
Access 97 format and debug for differences in design/code. Then convert the
Access 97 MDB (using Access 97, of course) to your MDE file.
