How can Excel solve this?

I have a bunch of numbers, lets say A, B, C, D. Each number is made up of a
combination of other numbers, lets say 1, 2, 5 make up A, 3, 7, 8, 9 make up
B and so on.

Is there any way I can get an output saying A is made up 1, 2 and 5 in
Excel? I think it could be done using Solver, no?

which numbers from the list add up to a specific number?

So I assume you have one column with A, B, C and the other with 125, 379 etc.

What you do is have the list of colums with the letters in A and the numbers
in B.

Then copy column A to C and do a Vlookup on column B and C.

Mr. Engineer,

The number A in Column 1 can be sum of numbers 1, 2, 5 or 2, 4, 6 in Column
2. I have to figure out what numbers in Column 2 make up number A, number B,
etc in Column 2. The numbers in Column 2 making up the numbers in Column 1
are unique, so if 1, 2, 5 make up A, none of those three can be part of a sum
making up B.
