How can I change the default style ?

Roger

I have Outlook 2003 on XP. When I reply to an email it automatically formats
the style>normal, but when I create a new email it automatically formats
style>para which makes every line in double spacing. How can I change the
default style for new emails to "normal".

thanks .. Roger

You need to change it in the mail template. Close Outlook, open the
template for editing in word and change the style. See
http://www.slipstick.com/problems/dblspace_html.htm - the steps are similar
for 2003.

Thanks for your reply. The "print friendly" page below is not very print
friendly, also I have not been able to find the NormalEmail.dotm template
referred to in the page ? Does Outlook 2003 have its own template or does it
share the Normal.dot template from MS WORD ? ...... Roger

NormalEmail.dotm is for Outlook 2007 (as it says in the article Diane
suggested). Try deleting both normal.dot and email.dot (although that
shouldn't be used any more) and allow Word to rebuilt the default template.
Does that help?

Thanks, I have found email.dot!. As I understand it, email.dot is the
template for new email messages in a manner similar to normal.dot being a
templace for new word documents. I have some macros that are used regularly
to email files to clients, so I assume that if I delete email.dot I will
have to customise it again for what I want ... but at least the style for
new messages (I assume) will be "normal" and not "paragraph". I assume that
I cannot simply change the email.dot template by opening it in word and just
changing something ?

thanks, Roger

As I said, though, Outlook 2003 shouldn't be using email.dot (use of email.dot
ended with Outlook 2002) and that's why I suggested you delete it.
