How can I change which programs start up when the machine is turned on?

Seems like my machine has way too many applications running in the
background. These include quicktime, a keyboard program, a special mouse
feature program, video editing program, quicken, a multifunction printer
program, etc. These start up whenever the machine is turned on or any user
logs in.

How can I change which programs start up automatically?

I used to know how with win 98 but XP professional has me stumped...

Thanks before hand for any suggestions!

REmove the shortcuts from the startup folder.
