How can i determine which version of access created a .mdb file

T

technog

I am trying to open a .mdb file and ms-access (95) running on windows xp pro
refuses to open it. (Yeah, i know its an old version, but its the only
version i have).
I get a "Unrecognized database format:D:\pathname-to-mdb file".

I tried to open the file using perl and the odbc driver, and i get an
incompatible error as well.

I am trying to figure out if i can use the right version of access/or the
right version of the odbc driver, maybe i can salvage the file somehow ???

Any help would be appreciated !!!

Here is dump of the header of the mdb file.

Hi,

I do not know about the version numbering in the header. However here
are several things to try:

1) Make sure you are all up-to-date with your Windows XP service packs
and critical updates. Service pack #2 provides the newest versions of MDAC
(more below). In theory, jumping directly to service pack #3 should work,
but on one computer it seemed to miss something crucial and Access would not
perform correctly. So I had to uninstall SP3; which took the machine back to
SP1. Then install SP2 and then SP3. Then it worked.

2) Try downloading and installing the free Access 2007 Runtime.

You won't be able to do more than run the file, but it may provide you
with up-to-date drivers.

3) If all else fails, try downloading and installing the latest MDAC
(2.8 SP1).
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...95-EFC2-4F8E-A9E0-3A1AFBD5922E&displaylang=en
May or may not install if you have XP SP2 or SP3. I am not sure.

4) You can purchase Access 2007 separately from the rest of Office for
~$200 (USD).

5) Download the 60-day trial version of Office 2007.
