How can I display the contents of an Office doc in SharePoint?

I am trying to update a team web site built with SharePoint Services using
FrontPage 2003. I simply want to display the contents of an office doc
(Excel, Word, Project) on the first page of my site. I thought I'd be able
to easily create a Web Part to do this, but I can't figure out how. I also
can't figure out how to add a new element to a webpartpage. When I try to
view the Web Parts menu in the task list, it's always greyed out.
