How can I embed fields into a word document?

This is a creative problem. I was recently sent an explanation of the
Musicians Union Pension. I thought it would be a simple thing to
replace the numbers with calculation fields so that anyone could enter
their numbers and get an accurate calculation of what pension they
would receive upon retirement. I remember having fields in a document
in Microsoft works for Mac more than ten years ago, so I didn't think
it would be a big deal. But I have not been able to find a way to do
it. I'm using Microsoft Office Word 2003. I have already worked out the
calculations in Excel. I would like to have several paragraphs of text
with fields that look like text that update as you change numbers in
certain fields. I would appreciate any ideas.

You can enter form fields and then use VBA programming code to
calculate the details regarding what information is entered.
