If you already saved it, you will need to retrieve your backup copy and
try again. Otherwise CTRL-Z is Undo.

Hidden columns will sort along with the unhidden ones if the columns on either
side of the hidden one are selected or adjacent columns are selected.

Excel will pop up a message asking if you want to "expand the selection".

If you click "No" then you get what you asked for.

No much consolation, but make note for the future.
