How can I globally disable the Hypertext link option in Excel?

I would like to globally disable the Hypertext link option in both Excel &
Word. Any ideas? I find this automatic Hypertext feature completely
annoying.

With Excel 2002 and 2003.........

Tools>AutoCorrect>AutoFormat as you type. Uncheck the "internet paths etc"
