How can I import a file and remove line feeds to that a number of.

I have recently installed Windows XP and had to purchase Office XP as Lotus
Smart Suite wouldn't work.

I used to be able to import a text file with a carriage return after every
line and Word Pro would strip out excess carriage returns.

Is there a way for MS Word XP to do this?
