how can I insert page break in table whilst keeping header row?

I am working with a large table and I want to control where the page breaks
whilst maintaining header row.

Use the page break before command (table tools tab > layout tab > data group)
on the row you want to start a new page.

As Pam says, if you want a definite page break, you can use the "Page break
before" command. If you just want to control the flow (keeping certain rows
together), with a page break if needed, you can use "Keep with next." See
