How can I lock the gridlines in an excel spreadsheet?

How can I lock the gridlines in an excel spreadsheet, so that, when I copy
and paste an item in the cell, I do not change the formatting of the grid
lines?

Look at doing a paste..special. If it is just values,
Paste...Special...Values.. If it is formulas,
Paste..Special..Formulas... etc..
