how can I make a word document to have page bleed?

Tam

I am preparing a magazine for publication. I have to prepare it in word, then
format to pdf for the printers. However I want to have pictures/print right
to the page edge, and the printers require a page bleed so that it can be
trimmed to size.
Has anyone got any suggestions?

Define a print page size that is 10-20mm larger all round than your finished
page.Increase your document margins by the same amount. You might find it
helpful to add crop marks -- add these as graphics to the header or footer.

You'll have to have a printer installed that is capable of printing to that
size, otherwise Word won't let you do this. You don't physically need the
printer itself: select a suitable printer from the list and install it on
port FILE: Then in Word, select that as the printer.

Hi Tam

Just to add to what Jezebel has said, the printer will need to be a
PostScript printer if you are going to save to PostScript and convert that
to PDF.

Alternatively, if you are using Acrobat to produce PDF, you can use
Distiller as the printer and reduce the margins down to zero or close (but
you'd still need to go oversize with crop marks to match the printers' trim
requirements - I suggest you get a clear spec from them on this if they are
working direct from the PDF).
