How Can I Make an Archive File "Read Only"?

I keep an archive file for each year. When I start a new one, I would like
to make the older ones "read only" so I can't mistakenly add or delete
something to/from them. I've tried making the actual archive file read only
but then I can't access it in Outlook. Is there a way of doing this or do I
just need to pay more attention when moving stuff around?

Read-only mode is not allowed. Any PST file that is opened in Outlook
*must* be allowed for writes. After all, how would Outlook know when
opening a PST file whether or not you had it configured to
auto-archive [from one archive file] to another archive file? Also,
if you move items around in folders then Outlook has to update the
Modified timestamp upon which auto-archiving is based (even if it
isn't currently configured for use).

Thanks Roady and VanguardLH. I guess I'll just have to be careful. It's
unfortunate that Outlook does not have an attribute within the archive itself
that "freezes" the content to make it a true "archive".

That what backups are for.
