How can I mask a rectangular photo behind an oval frame in Publis.

Publisher 2003. I don't understand why there are all kinds of shapes for
frames and borders, but no way to mask the image behind the frames so the
image takes the frame or border's shape.

Since you are using Publisher 2003, follow these steps:

1. Draw oval (or which ever shape you want).
2. Right click oval and choose Format Autoshape
3. On the Color Tab, choose the Color Fill drop down and choose Fill Effects
4. Choose the picture tab and click on Select Picture
5. Browse to picture and insert.
6. Click Ok, then Click Ok
