How can I open 2001 microsoft word documents

I upgraded from the Microsoft Millennium Edition to Windows XP. I cannot open
any Microsoft Word documents. I attempted to reinstall WorksSuiot2001 but my
computer will not run the CD. How can I work in Microsoft word or open my
documents??
