E

Eldegar

I received an attachment to an email that quotes a salary, but was apparently
sent from a microsoft spreadsheet and I cant seem to figure out how to open
it. (Most of what I know, I have learned on my own, so please put the answer
in simple terms) Thanks for your help

In order to open an Excel document (.XLS), you'll have to purchase
and install Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Office. If you wish
to only open and view an Excel document, and not make any
changes, you can download a free Excel viewer.

This will work if you have Windows XP or 2000. If you have an older
computer, you'll need the older version of the viewer.

You can download the old Microsoft Excel Viewer 97 at one of these locations. Please note that the
Microsoft.com link is a direct download link.

Another option is to use OpenOffice. You can find it at OpenOffice.org.
It is a suite of programs that do the Word, Excel & PowerPoint thing
and can read and write in a variety of formats. It's free, too.

I used it for about 2 years while I got the courage to pony up the big
bucks for MS Office. It's OK, a little weird in some of the conventions
& menu structures, but it was free.
