How can I remove a header that appears each time I start a new word doc?

A couple of weeks ago I opened a file that contained headers and footers from disk.
Now Word use that same page set up for all of my new documents. I tried deleting the header but it keeps reappearing!

Word 2002, you will probably want to rename Normal.dot rather than edit it
because if you have ever added a header or footer to Normal.dot, even though
you delete the text, the empty paragraph remains and will mess up the
alignment of labels, etc.
