How can I restrict cell data display to column width?

I would like to print my spreadsheet and restrict the data display to the
column width so that no column's empty cells are not covered with wide data
in adjacent column cells. Is there a way to do this? (Text control "wrap
text" and "shrink to fit" don't work for me.)
