How can I reveal hidden column and row headings on screen?

My colleague has hidden the column and row headings in a spreadsheet and I
don't know how to reverse this.
I need to highlight columns to unhide other hiden columns but cannot.
The worksheet is not protected.

In Tools -> Options, select the "View" tab
In the middle near the bottom there should be a "Row & Column Headers"
option, if you tick that it should solve your problems.

Select the columns (or rows) that are visible. For example, if col. D is
hidden select C then SHIFT+select E. Now, right click and select Unhide.
