How can I set up a hyperlink between a word document and a pdf fi

I download many pdf files on my hard drive. At the same time, I make a
summary note of each pdf document in a word file. Now I would like to make a
hyperlink on the word file that can be directed to the original pdf file.
When I made a hyperlink on a word file and click on the hyperlink, it does
not show the pdf file. How can I solve this problem?

What does it do when you click on the hyperlink? Nothing at all? When you
hover over the link does it say to hit Cntl + Click?
