How can I sort all of my documents by file size?

Paula

Hi,

I need to do some housekeeping as my laptop tells me it can't do anything
further due to limited resources, even when no other files are open. I think
it's because I have too may big excel files stored.

Is there a way when my files are in all different folders to sort them by
file size so I can upload the big ones I need into a database and off my
laptop memory?

Thanks for your advice. Paula

There are probably several ways to do it but I know what I'd do.

I use the ASAP Utilities in Excel and it can be used to create a directory
of what's on the computer and populate that data in an Excel spreadsheet.
I'd point to the top level folder, run the list, then sort by file size.

Limited Resources msg doesnt neccessarily mean that you insufficient disk
space.
The exact wording of the err.msg is required
Presumably you have run Disk Cleanup?

The exact steps that you should follow depend on which version of Windows and
which Search tool you are using. This should work for almost all versions of
Windows, Office, and Search:

1. Click on Search in your Start menu.
2. Enter "*.xls?" without the quotes in the "file name" textbox.
3. Set the search program to look in all folders.
4. Make sure that "Size" is one of the columns in the list of search
results. For the basic Windows XP Search Companion, set View to "Details".
5. Click on Search. Wait for the search to finish.
6. Click on the "Size" heading to sort your Excel documents by size.

I hope this helps.
