How can I stop the date changing in a finished template document?

Hello, I have never used templates before, and am having a problem with the
date which updates every time I open the finished document. How do I stop
this? I have protected the document so other changes cannot happen but the
date still keeps changing. Please help.

Delete the field code and just type a date in there.
