I have just set up a new laptop and installed Office 2003 on it. Word and
Excel work fine when using local files, but when opening up files from a
share that is mapped to a different PC, it attempts to open the file from a
web share and I end up with a web page stating "The web site address you
entered could not be found." When opening the same remote file with wordpad,
the file opens with no problem. I can tell that Word \ Excel is trying to
open a web share because I get a message box stating "Opening
http://pcname/sharename/file.doc" instead of "F:/file.doc." I have
uninstalled Office 2003 and then installed Office XP and am experiencing the
same behaviour.
At this point I am not sure what to try next. If anyone could please give
me some advice I would greatly appreciate it.
